Facebook Messenger is back to its old blue icon. It used to have a purple-blue mix since 2020. That mix was part of a plan to connect Messenger with Instagram’s messages so people could chat across both apps.

Going back to plain blue might mean a change in how they want Messenger to look or work. Meta didn’t say why, but it fits with updates that make Messenger different from Instagram again.

This could be Meta fixing up its messaging apps, maybe because of what users want or for new stuff coming later. We don’t know yet if it means big changes for how Messenger works.

With over 1.3 billion monthly active users, Messenger remains a dominant player in the instant messaging space, competing with platforms like WhatsApp, iMessage, and Telegram. Its widespread adoption is due in part to its seamless integration with Facebook, allowing users to connect with friends, family, and businesses without needing a separate phone number.
